Free Citation Generator: APA, MLA, Harvard and Chicago
Paste a web address, DOI or ISBN and the generator fills in the details for you, or enter them by hand. Pick your style, check the result against your source, and copy the reference with its italics intact. Your reference list stays in this browser until you clear it.
How to use it
Choose the citation style your course or journal asks for.
Paste a URL, DOI or ISBN and select Find, or choose a source type and fill in the fields yourself.
Check every field against the source itself: automatic look-ups can miss authors, dates or page numbers.
Add the reference to your list, then copy the full list in alphabetical or numbered order.
Frequently asked questions

APA 7 and 6, MLA 9 and 8, Harvard, Chicago (notes-bibliography and author-date), Turabian, IEEE, Vancouver, AMA, ASA, ACS, NLM, CSE, APSA, AAA, Bluebook, OSCOLA and AGLC.
Are generated citations always correct?
No generator is perfect. Always compare the reference with the source and your style guide, especially author names, dates, capitalization and page numbers.
Is my reference list saved?
It is saved only in this browser on this device. Clearing your browser data, or using a private window, removes it.
What is the difference between an in-text citation and a reference?
The in-text citation is the short marker in your sentence, such as (Doe, 2024). The reference is the full entry in your reference list or bibliography.
